Tokyo

We arrived in Tokyo around 1pm on Wednesday after what seemed like 3 days of flights, punctuated with dire movies and Tetris courtesy of the planes entertainment console. Natalie will argue that "A Time To Kill" was the exception to the rule with regards to the films but I fell asleep half way through that so I can't testify to her proclamation that it is a cinematic masterpiece.

I feel that such extreme travel should be followed by some sort of serenity and a location which allows you to find your feet and gather your thoughts but Tokyo certainly doesn't offer you this luxury. It was like giving a blind person sight and throwing them onto the dancefloor of a superclub. Lasers, smoke machines and denk, sweaty birds. THE WORKS. We didn't know where to turn, what to look at or where all the noises were coming from. It took me a good 5 minuets to realise that the sound of MC Hammer that was following me was coming from massive advertising screens. By the time we got off our trains from the airport and into Shibuya where we staying it was dark and looked a little like this.

We got some noodles, had a general mooch about and headed back to our hostel for some much needed kip. What I didn't need was to fully K.O myself on the doorframe of our room. It was like the doors were made for the Borrowers and certainly not me as you can see.

The next day we decided we were going to get the evening train to Kyoto and return to Tokyo at the end of our trip. The highlights of the remainder of our time in Tokyo were generally the parks and gardens, which gave us a fleeting moment of escape from the mayhem. Please enjoy our experience vicariously through some selected images.
